How to Hide the new Facebook "Ticker"

How to Hide the new Facebook "Ticker"

Within the last changes Facebook made to its interface, one of the most controversial has been the new ticker with real time updates . This is a strip to the right of the screen that shows all what our friends while we are connected, without any filter. While many people it may seem useful, others see it as distracting, visually annoying and disrespectful to privacy.

Worst of all is that Facebook imposes on us the use of this element does not give us the option to hide it, even temporarily. Luckily extensions have come to different browsers with which we can eliminate forever the "Ticker" screen.

In the case of Chrome and Firefox the procedure is very simple, just have to download the respective extension ( Firefox , Chrome ), install, and ready. However, Internet Explorer 9 the procedure to banish the infamous Ticker is a bit more complex: we install IE7 Pro extension, restart Internet Explorer, and then install this user script . The collateral problem is that because IE7 Pro add-on is a relatively large load Internet Explorer can slow down a bit, but to mitigate that can go to the options of IE7 Pro and turn off all functions except "Sequences and accessories ".

In case you want to have the ticker back momentarily, we can always use the browser in incognito mode (in which extensions are automatically disabled), or manually disable extensions.
