Campaigns to recycle the old phones what really want is to recover the coltan they contain.

Coltan is formed by a mixture of minerals columbite and tantalum. Tantalum is a material used to form capacitors smaller than the electrolyte capacitors, tantalum capacitors also more accurate. The properties of this material are varied, superconductivity, ultrarefractorio character, which allows high temperatures and corrosion resistance. Tantalum capacitors are used today for any type of electronic component such as mobile phones. This material has been a price increase since 2000 and is a scarce material, hence the nickname "blue gold". And it's funny because 80% of exports come from Rwanda. This has led numerous campaigns by telephone companies to recover this material.
