New York (AP). The actor who plays Elmo on Sesame Street had to get away for a while the TV show, after allegations that arise had an affair with a 16 years.
The company in charge of the children's area, Sesame Workshop , said the puppeteer, Kevin Clash , denies the accusations, first filed in June for his alleged partner, who by then was 23.
"We take very seriously the charge and act immediately," Sesame Workshop said in a statement. "We met with the accuser twice and we communicate with him repeatedly. We met with Kevin, who denied the allegations."
The organization described the relationship as personal and "not related to the workplace." The research, he said, found that the charge of misconduct with a minor had no basis. But he added that Clash did show "poor judgment" and was disciplined for violating company policy regarding Internet use, although no details.
ENSURES THAT WAS A consensual relationship
Meanwhile, Clash, accused of pedophilia, admitted to having a relationship with demanten, but said that this was when he was already an adult.
"I had a relationship with (the accused)" admitted Clash to celebrity website TMZ . "It was (a relationship) between two consensual adults and I am deeply saddened that he tries to make it something it was not."
However, the applicant submitted a series of cutting erotic emails, where you can confirm that, indeed, was a minor when he began his relationship with Clash, although the latter ensures that these emails are false.
Thereafter, Clash was granted a license in order to "protect its reputation," said Sesame Workshop. Not provided any explanation nor specified how long his absence.
"Elmo is bigger than any individual and will remain an integral part of Sesame Street to engage, educate and inspire children around the world, as it has done for 40 years," said Sesame Workshop.
OVER 20 YEARS AS ELMO
The puppeteer of 54 years working in television since 1984, when he received the furry red puppet named Elmo, who was asked to give him a new voice. Clash transformed the character, it was a marginal member of the Muppets for a number of years, in a large star that competed with Big Bird as the image of "Sesame Street."
In 2006, Clash released an autobiography titled "My Life as a Furry Red Monster" and in 2011 was the subject of the documentary "Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey".
